OPay has announced plans to expand its N1.2 billion 10-year scholarship programme to 41 tertiary institutions across Nigeria by the end of 2026, deepening its long-term investment in education and youth development.
The fintech company disclosed this following the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Miva Open University, which brings the number of tertiary institutions participating in the scholarship programme to 25.
OPay said it plans to extend the initiative to 16 additional tertiary institutions by the end of 2026, potentially widening access to scholarship opportunities for thousands of Nigerian students.
The initiative forms part of the broader OPay Scholars Programme, alongside the OPay National Innovation Challenge, implemented in partnership with Google and 3MTT, as well as OPay Futures.
The N1.2 billion scholarship commitment, spread over 10 years, is designed to provide sustained financial support to students pursuing higher education, rather than relying solely on one-off educational donations.
For many Nigerian families facing rising education costs, such support can help students remain in school, concentrate on their studies and complete their programmes without the constant pressure of finding funds for tuition and other educational expenses.
The latest partnership with Miva Open University also expands the reach of the programme into technology-enabled and flexible higher education.
As a technology-driven university, Miva offers a different model of tertiary education, with its inclusion in the scholarship programme providing opportunities for more students to access financial support while pursuing their studies.

With the planned addition of 16 institutions, the scholarship programme will have a presence in 41 tertiary institutions by the end of 2026, further broadening its potential impact.
