Knorr has taken the celebration of World Jollof Day 2026 beyond homes and restaurants, bringing free meals and moments of excitement to communities across Lagos and Abuja.
The food brand marked the occasion with its #TurnUpForJollof campaign, surprising motorists, passengers and other commuters with complimentary Knorr Jollof Food Boxes at busy locations across the two cities.
The campaign was built around the popularity of jollof rice, a dish that has become a major part of Nigerian social and cultural life, featuring at family meals, weddings, parties and other gatherings.
Recipients of the food boxes included drivers of green cars, female motorists, parents travelling with children and commuters wearing touches of green.
According to Knorr, the initiative was designed to turn ordinary moments, including waiting in traffic, into opportunities for Nigerians to share a meal and celebrate the dish that has become a symbol of togetherness.
The celebration covered several locations in Lagos, including Surulere, Yaba, Ikeja and Lekki, while Kubwa in Abuja also joined the activities.
At different traffic hotspots, Glovo riders delivered Knorr Jollof Food Boxes directly to selected recipients, bringing the World Jollof Day experience to people during their daily routines. The campaign also featured food and lifestyle creators, including Chef Dee, Diary Of A Kitchen Lover and Simi Drey. Their interactions with commuters and other participants added to the excitement and helped drive the celebration across the cities.
Speaking on the campaign, Damilola Dania, Foods Demand Creation Lead at Unilever Nigeria Plc, said jollof rice represented more than just food to Nigerians.
“Jollof goes beyond a beloved dish for Nigerians. At Knorr, we believe it is also about the culture, joy and connections that happen around it,” Dania said.
She said World Jollof Day provided an opportunity for Knorr to take that message directly to the streets and create unexpected moments of happiness for Nigerians.
“This year’s World Jollof Day gave us the opportunity to take that belief to the streets and celebrate the goodness of Jollof with the people in a truly memorable way,” she said.
According to Dania, the reactions from commuters, families and drivers showed the ability of food to create connections and spread joy.
“We wanted to create unexpected moments of joy in the hustle and bustle of living, and seeing the excitement from commuters, families, drivers and everyone who joined in reminded us of just how powerful food can be in sharing joy and bringing people together,” she added.
Through the campaign, Knorr said it sought to celebrate not only jollof rice but also the people, culture and shared experiences that have made the dish an enduring part of Nigerian life.
