Nigeria’s foremost sports betting platform, BetKing, is set to host a historic Guinness World Record attempt for the most people simultaneously keeping a football in the air. The event, scheduled for June 28 at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, will be led by Nigerian football legend, Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha.
Announcing the initiative at a media briefing in Lagos, Margaret Chikwendu, Head of PR and Communications at Syracuse Africa, said the event is part of activities marking the official launch of JJ BallX, BetKing’s new crash game inspired by the vibrant energy of Nigerian street football.
“JJ BallX pays homage to the everyday footballer by combining nostalgic visuals, fast-paced gameplay, and the cultural flair of the streets,” Chikwendu said. “The game’s central character is modeled after Jay-Jay Okocha, reflecting his flair and legendary skills.”
Chikwendu described the upcoming record attempt as a call to all Nigerian football lovers — from skilled jugglers to passionate fans — to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Nigerian football culture.
“This is not just about breaking a record. It’s about making history together and celebrating unity through sport. Participants won’t just be spectators — their presence on the field will count toward setting a new Guinness World Record,” she stated.
To build excitement ahead of the launch, BetKing ran a ₦5 million promotional giveaway from May 6 to June 6, 2025. During the campaign, 50 players who wagered a minimum of ₦5,000 cumulatively on JJ BallX were rewarded with ₦100,000 each in cashback.
Chikwendu emphasized that the event is free to attend, but space is limited. Interested participants are advised to arrive early to secure their spot on the field. The day promises more than just football — attendees will enjoy live music, giveaways, and an electrifying atmosphere.
“Each participant will receive a jersey and a football signed by Jay-Jay Okocha himself. It’s more than a gaming experience — it’s a celebration of Nigerian spirit, culture, and talent,” Chikwendu added.
With street-style football energy, community vibes, and national pride all coming together under one roof, the event is poised to create an unforgettable moment in Nigerian sporting history.
