Team Nasarawa has recorded an impressive performance at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, winning a total of eleven medals as of day eight of the competition.
The medal haul includes one gold, one silver, and nine bronzes.
The gold medal was won by Agada Elijah in the Men’s Taekwondo Poomsae Demonstration event, while Charles Chiemerie Obayi secured silver in the Men’s -85kg Kung-Fu Wushu category.
Bronze medallists include Ovey Haruna (-65kg), Beauty Timothy (-52kg), Owulama Akolo (-90kg), and Sunmisola Popoola (-48kg) in Kung-Fu Wushu; Laadi Louisa Ihuo (-53kg) and Mildred Monday (-62kg) in Taekwondo; Christabel Daniel (-62kg) and Hamza Muntari (-60kg) in Karate; and Armstrong Allu in the Dart Men’s 300 Singles category.
Reacting to the performance, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Nasarawa State, Hon Jafaru Ango, said:
“Our athletes have shown great commitment and resilience. We are proud of their performance so far. I commend the coaches and officials as well for their efforts. We are hopeful and confident that more medals will be won before the end of the festival.”
The festival is scheduled to conclude on May 29, and Team Nasarawa remains in contention in several events.
