The Kano State Police Command, has smashed a Chadian- based terrorist group plotting to set up a terrorist base in the state. The Kano State Police Commissioner, Salman Dogo Garba, announced this on Friday at the Bompai headquarters of the command in the state.
Speaking during a press conference, the commissioner explained that, acting on intelligence reports, they followed the trail of one Ahmed Adam Abba, a Chadian national, who was identified to be plotting an attack, as well as planning to set up a terrorist base in the state. Garba, however, disclosed that the suspected leader of the syndicate, who was wanted in Chad for masterminding the killing of 17 people, escaped to Cameroun. However, he added that the police have successfully apprehended three of his associates, including his wife, a 42-year old Chadian national named Jilbrin Mohammed, and a Nigerian collaborator, adding that they are on the trail of the gang members and are making progress.
He equally disclosed that the police recovered a number of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which would have been used for operation, adding that investigations into the nature and scope of the terrorist plot on the state were still in progress.
The commissioner explained that already some top detectives from Chad led by the Police Commissioner of Djamena, Mohammat D Ali, had arrived in the state and had since corroborated the fact that the leader of the gang was a dangerous terrorist.
Garba assured that the command has made significant progress in its efforts to dismantle these networks and neutralise any potential risks in the state.
“In addition to the aforementioned arrests, we have ramped up our intelligence-gathering efforts across various places” he said.
