Renowned medical expert and Dean, faculty of Dental Science at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Prof Ezekiel Taiwo Adebayo has lamented the high rate of migration by medical experts in the country, saying that the development has adversely affected the medical profession in the country.

To this end, he called on the government to do everything possible to prevent the migration of all categories of medical professionals in the country.

Delivering the 7th inaugural lecture of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Prof. Adebayo urges the government to create an enabling working environment for medical professionals to work.

Prof Adebayo whose lecture was titled “Man and his oral health: Exploits of a maxillofacial surgeon” said the first impression of any individual is the look of the face, hence the need for individuals to take good care of their appearance.

Also, he urged the government to pay attention to oral health care of the people.

On Japa syndrome, Prof Adebayo said “Japa syndrome poses serious challenge to the future of medical practice in the country. Young graduates and experts in the medical profession are joining the movement.”

He therefore advised the government to tackle the challenges of insecurity, high cost of living and high rate of taxation, which he identified as the major causes of migration of the medical professionals in the country.

Besides, he enjoined the government to increase investment in health sector and create enabling environment for medical professionals to thrive in their career.

On oral health, he said the oral health of Nigerians need improvement, stressing the need for the government to integrate oral health care into the Primary Health Care system.
