Following the media chat by President Bola Tinubu penultimate week where he, among other issues, announced that he never regretted removing fuel subsidy, the former Secretary General of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Anthony Sani has said that as long as the succour is yet to be experienced, most Nigerians would conclude the reforms are not good enough.

Tinubu told Nigerians that all the reforms were not a matter of choice but tasks that must be done, the untold hardship not withstanding because it would come to pass and the people will be better for it.

However, Sani told Sunday Sun that Nigerians have been left no option than to advise government on the best approaches that could bring about some succour as quickly as possible.

He added that this had become necessary instead of the people resorting to lamentations that will not bring solution to the myriad of challenges confronting the nation.

“The president has appealed for understanding by Nigerians whose support is sine qua non in the struggles. In such circumstances, there is nothing one can say or add beyond appealing to Nigerians to be supportive of the government.

“This is because as long as the succour is yet to be experienced, most Nigerians would conclude the reforms are not good enough.

“Since the president has admitted the government’s inability to think out better options to the reforms, I appeal to Nigerians to come forward and advise the government on the best approaches, if any, that can bring about some succour as quickly as possible. This is because unbridled lamentations are never solutions to the myriad of challenges confronting the nation.

“Mr President in the media chat told Nigerians that his reforms like removal of fuel subsidies and floating of the naira as well as the Tax Reforms Bills are meant to redirect the socioeconomic development of the country.

“He also talked of his improvement of the security architecture and preventive approach of fighting corruption. In addition, he said the reforms are not matter of choice but tasks that must be done.

He admitted the untold hardship which he said would come to pass because there is some light at the end of the tunnel,” Sani said.

The former ACF Scribe also spoke on the allegation of Nigeria colluding with France to destabilise Niger Republic, saying, “Nigeria which is fighting terrorists and has been participating in many peace missions across the globe cannot possibly engage in sponsoring terrorism for destabilization of other countries.

Nothing can motivate Nigeria to get involved in such dastardly acts.

I am therefore tempted to believe that the military junta in Niger Republic has turned to blame game as a strategy to divert attention of the people away from his failure to deliver on the promise to make the people of Niger experience and see change of peace, stability and prosperity for all.”
