The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) recently inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) at the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
This unit was established to reinforce transparency, promote accountability, and combat corruption within UBEC’s operations.
At the inauguration ceremony, ICPC representatives emphasized the significance of the ACTU in fostering a culture of integrity and ethical standards within the education sector.
The unit is expected to work closely with UBEC leadership to implement anti-corruption policies, conduct regular compliance audits, and provide ongoing awareness training for staff, ensuring adherence to best practices in public service management.
Meanwhile, the former Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi along with members of the commission’s management, received data from a recent survey conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The survey focused on primary mathematics and science education across selected states in Nigeria.
In a related development, a high-level focus group discussion took place at the Digital Resource Center, Abuja, FCT, between UBEC’s Environmental and Social Safeguard Team (E&SST) and the UBEC Management.
During the workshop, Dr. Bobboyi emphasized that safeguarding is a collective responsibility requiring the active engagement of all stakeholders.
