A man simply identified as Femi Apantaku has committed suicide by jumping into the Gbodofon River in Osogbo, Osun State.

The man, who was said to be the only son of his parent from Ilesa, jumped into the river around 10:30a.m yesterday.

According to an eyewitness, before he jumped into the river, he kept saying that a group of gang members had beaten him mercilessly at the Finger Licking Eatery, Ogo-Oluwa, which made him decide to end his life.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident.

She said: “During our investigation, we interviewed a man who witnessed the incident, he mentioned that Apantaku initially attempted to commit suicide, but was chased away and later he came back, saying that he was tired of life.

Shortly after, he went to the top of the Gbodofon Bridge and jumped into the river.”

As of the time of filing this report, the body of Apantaku has not been recovered.

But the NSCDC said that efforts are ongoing to retrieve his corpse.
