The Benue State government said it has commenced the automation of payment of primary school teachers’ salaries in the state to end incessant deductions of their monies.
The Secretary, Board of State Universal Basic Education, (SUBEB), Benue state, Dr Joseph Jande, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in Makurdi.
Jande who was flanked by other board members, Paul Ebe and Prince Andy Uwuoku, said the initiative was part of measures introduced by the government to boost the morale of the teachers to enable them offer quality service.
The board secretary said the board members have been working in synergy with the executive chairman to tackle some problems inherited on assumption of office in December, 2023.
He said the board is also making efforts to reposition the basic education system in the state and ensure that primary school teachers receive their full salaries on earth without the hitherto unexplained deductions.
“That is why we are all collaborating to make sure that this organization moves forward from where it was because if the chairman fails, it is all of us that have failed and we will not want to be part of any system that has failed.
“We are making efforts both in administration and in structures to make sure that the board is accorded general face-lift.
“We are also doing our best to make sure that the problems we met on ground are tackled. We want to ensure that members of staff are diligent in their work and the basic education system in Benue state is properly positioned,” he said.
A member representing Benue North East senatorial district at the board, Mr Paul Ebe, stated that before now, primary school teachers had been contending with several issues including deduction of their salaries without any reason.
He expressed confidence that “With the commencement of the automation of teachers’ salaries, the issues we had in the past including the deduction of teachers’ salaries without cogent reasons will be a thing of the past and there will be no problems with salary payment anymore.”
Also speaking, another board member, Prince Andy Uwouku said there is synergy among the members right from the executive chairman, reason he said was responsible for the innovation been carried out at the board.
Uwouku said, “We have commenced the automation of the payroll of teachers as well as the complete renovation of the headquarters and provision of facilities all with the approval of the board.”
He promised that the board will continue to work together as a team to ensure that the goals set for them by the state Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, is achieved.
