Northern group demands resignation of Ganduje over completion of tenure as APC chair

The North-Central Reality Movement, a political group, has demanded the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, over expiration of his tenure.

In addition, the group has vowed to picket the APC headquarters if the chairman of the party does not step down in the next 96 hours.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, the association’s Chairman, Muhammad Ibrahim, said Ganduje had completed his six months agreed tenure, but that there were indications that he was seeking an extension.

Ibrahim called on President Bola Tinubu and other leaders of the APC to implore Ganduje for an honorary exit from the leadership of the party in the spirit of oneness and solidarity.

He said: “In light of the current situation within our political party and in order to align with President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, we would like to express our thoughts on the matter.

“As you may recall, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was appointed as the substantive Chairman of our esteemed party on August 3rd, 2023, for a term of six months. It was agreed upon that he would return the Chairmanship to the North central region to complete their tenure.

“However, there have been rumours circulating that Mr. Ganduje has been attempting to influence the extension of his own tenure by utilising financial resources. This behaviour is in direct violation of the earlier agreement made between all parties involved.

“We believe it is important to make it clear that Mr. Ganduje’s term as Chairman has already expired and therefore we call for his immediate resignation from this position. In doing so, we hope to reposition our party for the betterment of our members and in accordance with President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“In conclusion we are calling and appealing to Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu whom we know that equity, fairness and justice is his watch word and he is a person for all and respect agreement that the North Central are calling him to please tell Mr. Chairman Dr. ABDULLAHI Umar GANDUJE to vacate the seat of the chairman of our great party and allow the North Central Complete their Tenure as earlier agreed as we are prepared to occupy the Party Secretariat within the next 96Hours if nothing is done.”
