From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
The Police in Kano have raised the alarm that a faceless group was plotting to plunge the state into voilence and confusion following the judgement of the Appeal Court that affirmed the sack of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The Commission of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, at a press conference, yesterday, noted that the command received intelligence that the group had planned to embark on protest that was designed to breach peace and cause destruction of lives and property in the state.
“These faceless people are also trying to use some media outlets to send negative and poisonous messages against the police and other security agencies in the state.
“These groups are currently putting pressure very hard and pushing up for the law-abiding and innocent people to be killed in their desperation to trigger violence escalation and create disharmony amongst the security operatives and also to push them in engaging in deadly clashes with the protesting members of the public.
“Unfortunately for them, both the Police, media practitioners and the Kano people are democratically enlightened and patriotic citizens.”
According to him, the leaderships of the various markets in the state had dissociated themselves from any protest adding also that the headship of both the state NNPP and APC had both reaffirmed their commitment to the peace understanding they both signed with the police.
He warned that anyone involved in any protest would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law even as he declared that the police would overwhelm the mischief makers and ensure peace for the citizens of the state.
He appealed to residents to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses while lauding his officers for the sacrifices they had been making for the security of the state since the judgement was announced.
