Following the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal that overturned the decision of the Election Petition Tribunal, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, has announced its intent to challenge the verdict at the Supreme Court.
The Appeal Court’s judgment, which nullified the tribunal’s earlier decision, saw Governor AA Sule reinstated and declared duly elected, contrary to the tribunal’s declaration of Dr. David Ombugadu as the rightful governor. In a press statement released on Friday by the State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Francis Enokela Orogu, the party expressed profound disagreement with the Appeal Court’s decision.
Orogu highlighted that the PDP, after thorough consultation with its legal team, identified substantial grounds for appeal that they believed necessitate a review by the Supreme Court.
Orogu urged party supporters and the public to remain composed and maintain faith in the democratic institutions and judicial system of the country. Acknowledging the support received from their members, Orogu emphasised that the party’s perception of the Appeal Court’s judgment as a temporary setback and stressed the importance of resilience and patience in the pursuit of justice.
