In another development the Delta State Police Command arrested five declared wanted kidnappers who killed policemen on duty and other security agencies. Over 50 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists were also rounded up in their various hideouts in Warri axis.

Commissioner of Police, Mr Wale Abass, said: “The command has a breakthrough on the criminals are terrorising the state by clamping down on them in their various scenes of crime.  The ‘ember’ months’ efforts yielded good result when the police tactical team went after the kidnappers in Warri axis.

“We arrested a declared wanted kidnapper, aka Momotimi, with his syndicate members in an encounter with our officers in their hideout. They confessed to committing the crime.

“They were involved in several incidences of kidnapping attacks and were responsible for the bank robbery operation at a microfinance bank in Udu LG last year, killing a policeman and other security agencies.

“The tactical team recovered AK-47 rifles, 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 47 empty shells. The same gang had encounter with the officers when its members wanted to kidnap a victim. The operatives successfully subdued and repelled the kidnappers. Four suspects in a bid to escape, sustained bullets. They were taken to the General Hospital, Kwale where they later died.

“On October 2, 2023, police operatives arrested 15 suspected armed robbers along Agbor/Benin/Warri Expressway. We had another encounter in Sapele. Police operatives raided hideouts of criminals, recovering dangerous weapons from them.

“There have been constant patrols on the Asaba-Benin Expressway. We don’t want to take chances with the hoodlums. The Anti-Cultist Team (ACT) arrested suspected cultists in various places in Abraka. They were involved in armed robbery and they confessed to the crime.

“These ‘ember’ months, the criminals must to leave the state. We will not allow them to have peace of mind. We will continue to go after them until they turn to a new leaf. I want to appreciate my officers, other security agencies including the vigilance groups and hunter for their support in flushing criminals out of the state.  All suspects will soon be charged to court.”
