With more Nigerians leaving the country’s shores in search of work, study, and a better life, the question of where to settle remains key.
For many years, the United Kingdom has served as a prime destination for Nigerian migrants, offering basic amenities and relative comfort to those seeking greener pastures.
Here are five of the best places for Nigerian migrants to live in the UK:
1. London
The capital city is home to the largest Nigerian community in the UK. Areas like Peckham, Woolwich, Lewisham and Thamesmead are often called “Little Lagos” because of the high number of Nigerians living there.
Shops, restaurants and churches make it easy for new arrivals to settle. However, the high cost of living is a major challenge.
2. Manchester
This northern city has a fast-growing Nigerian and African population. It offers cheaper housing than London and is known for its universities, health sector jobs and vibrant student life.
3. Birmingham
As one of the most diverse cities in the UK, Birmingham provides Nigerians with strong community support.
It is more affordable than London and has growing opportunities in services, education and healthcare.
4. Leeds
Popular with Nigerian students, Leeds is known for its universities and lower housing costs. The city has a steadily growing African population, making it easier for newcomers to feel at home.
5. Glasgow
Scotland’s largest city is gaining popularity among Nigerians looking for affordable housing and quality public services. Though colder than other parts of the UK, it offers a slower pace of life and an expanding community.
Migration experts say Nigerians are no longer concentrating only in London but are spreading across other UK cities where life is more affordable and opportunities are rising.
