Duane “Keffe D” has been found guilty of murder in the first degree by a Las Vegas jury in the death of American rapper Tupac Shakur.
Davis was convicted with the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang, with the 63-year-old facing a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.
He has told the judge he intends to appeal the verdict.
While the prosecutors never claimed Davis fired the shots that took Tupac’s life during the September 1996 drive-by shooting, they argued he was the “shot caller” who handed the murder weapon to the gunman.
The gunman is believed to have been his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, or another man in the back seat.
Tupac’s murder is one of the notorious unsolved killings in music history, and the verdict marks the first conviction in the case.
According to prosecutors, Davis orchestrated the Las Vegas shooting as retaliation after Tupac and his entourage got into a fight with Keffe D’s nephew earlier that night.
Jurors were pointed to Davis’ police interviews and his memoir, including a 2008 interview in which he told investigators he gave his nephew a gun, adding that his nephew was the one who fired the shots.
Meanwhile, Davis’ attorneys argued that his admissions were nothing but tall tales, saying their client was “full of crap” and that was why he was never charged for decades.
