Four people were killed and three others injured as rampaging gunmen attacked Nkienzha in Miango District of Rigwe Chiefdom in Bassa local government areas of Plateau state.
The incident came after few months of respite in the unending communal feud between indigenous Irigwe people and Fulani herders.
Daily Sun gathered that the attack took place at about 11:00 p.m.on Sunday when most of the inhabitants had gone to sleep. They also torched many houses.
The invaders were said to have shot indiscriminately into the air to announce their arrival before launching their attack.
The injured are said to be receiving treatment in a hospital.
Irgwe Development Association (IDA), in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Mr. Davidson Malison, expressed shock over the latest attack.
They expressed dismay that the marauders, after months of break and many peace initiatives, have returned to continue with their nefarious activities.
“The gory days have returned to the beautiful land of Rigwe following the resurgence of blood shed and carnage by the marauding herdsmen. On a day meant to be holy and sacred, Sunday, February 11, 2024, at about 23 hrs,the blood suckers launched an attack at a community called Nkienzha in Miango District of Rigwe Chiefdom,Bassa LGA of Plateau, rendering three beautiful and innocent souls lifeless and breathless, placing one under severe conditions of 50/50 chances of survival and setting ablaze houses.
Also the leadership of Irigwe Nation, through the Traditional Council and the Development Association (IDA), described the resurgence of attacks and killings as callous and barbaric and cautioned the perpetrators to immediately put a halt to the mayhem being unleashed in the land.
It further called on the constituted authorities to do the needful to restore normalcy in the affected area, adding that the people, who are predominantly farmers, need a peaceful atmosphere to continue to practice their trade unhindered.
The association added that the Nkienzha attack took place after another bright Irigwe young man was killed 24 hours before the attack at Teegbe village in Miango District and another car ambush on Friday, where the vehicle was burned down and one person sustained injuries.
The police are yet to react to the latest development.
