Over 398, 000 children out of assumed the total population of 498,000 that are expected to be in schools in Kebbi State are still roaming the streets.
Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aliero, who disclosed this, on Thursday, while briefing journalists in his office. He said that out of the figures, over 100,000 comprises of Almajiri children have been enroll in schools when the present administration took over the government since 2015.
Aliero said about 600 schools were in the state with about 4,000 teachers stressed that the state government are working hard to employ more teachers to cope with the expected population of children expected to be in schools.
He noted that about N250 million have been spent on provision of furniture’s in different schools across the state while, N3.6 billions were used to rehabilitate various primary and secondary schools in the state.
Aliero added that the state had 65 boarding schools and 211 days school under the state government stressing that before 2019, they would be expanded to accommodate more pupils to ensure the streets were free from Almajiri.
