Three persons were feared killed during the conduct ofthe supplementary elections in Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State yesterday.
Sunday Sun gathered that the confrontation, which led to the torching of few houses, occurred between Utai and Achika general area of the town.
Although the exact details of the clash was still expected as at press time, it was gathered that trouble broke out after some largely unfamiliar thugs invaded the town and attempted to participate in the electoral process, but were resisted by the residents.
Contacted on the incident, Kano State Police Commissioner, Mohammad Gumel, confirmed that there was indeed a clash in Wudil, but stressed that the police were still making inquiries to determine the nature of the confrontation.
He added that at the moment, the police cannot confirm whether the clash was directly related to the ongoing supplementary elections in the area or not. He, however, promised to provide the details of the clash in due course.
In the meantime, the supplementary election in the state was characterized by large turnout of voters in many parts of the state.
Thugs, however, attempted to disrupt the exercise in a number of polling units in the state, notably in Fagge, Ungogo, Wudil and Dambatta Local Government Area of the state according to checks.
In the Jaba area of Ungogo Local Government Area, thugs sympathetic
to rival parties clashed and blocked the main road during their fight.
The situation resulted in panic driving by motorists who struggled on wheels to flee from the scene of the confrontation while some turned back and returned home.
The same disruption took place at Alsawa and Kwachi ward in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State where the thugs succeeded in destroying a ballot box, but failed in their attempt to snatch three other boxes.
