Three persons were confirmed dead in a ghastly motor accident which occurred along Nnewi-Okigwe Expressway, in Anambra State, yesterday, at about 9:30a.m, involving a mini pick-up van and a sewage tanker.

The victims were the driver of the pick-up van and two of its occupants, which included school children who were said to have been offered a lift.

Eyewitnesses said the tanker was trying to make a U- turn when the driver of the pick-up van, from an opposite direction, collided with it and ran into a stationary trailer.

Three  occupants of the van, the driver and two females, were said to have died instantly.

Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nnewi unit command, ACC Christy Obasi, said his men rescued five injured victims from the accident scene, and took them to a hospital, while the deceased were deposited in a morgue. Obasi attributed the incident to over speeding.

She said her command had continued to intensify campaigns in churches, schools and other public places to warn road users against over speeding, making phone calls while  driving and the need to put on their crash helmets, for those who ride motorcycles.
