No fewer than 1,000 youth leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the South-West will converge on Lagos on September 10 for a leadership summit ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The summit, organised by the Office of the APC South-West Youth Leader, Daramola Adesuyi, will bring together young party members from Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo and Osun states.
Themed “Strengthening Youth Leadership for Progressive Governance and National Development,” the event will hold at the LTV Hall, Ikeja.
Adesuyi, in a statement on Monday, said the summit was designed to deepen youth participation in politics and governance while preparing young party members for greater leadership responsibilities.
He said discussions at the event would focus on leadership development, political participation, governance, mentorship and the role of young people in strengthening democratic institutions.
According to him, the summit is also intended to provide young APC members with the knowledge, skills and networks required to contribute meaningfully to governance and public policy.
“The summit is coming amid growing calls for greater involvement of young people in political decision-making, with youth participation increasingly shifting from mere mobilisation and electioneering to demands for leadership opportunities, capacity building and meaningful representation.
“With more than 1,000 participants expected, the summit could become a significant gathering for the APC’s youth structure in the region as young leaders seek a stronger voice and greater responsibility in the party’s political affairs,” Adesuyi added.
He said political participation should go beyond election mobilisation, urging young members to develop the capacity to participate actively in governance and public service.
“Youth participation is increasingly shifting from mere mobilisation and electioneering to demands for leadership opportunities, capacity building and meaningful representation,” Adesuyi said.
He added that deliberate investment in youth leadership was necessary to develop a new generation of political actors capable of contributing innovative ideas to governance.
Adesuyi said the South-West, given its historical influence in Nigeria’s political development, had an important role to play in preparing young people for leadership.
He said participants would also use the summit to exchange experiences, establish networks and develop strategies for strengthening the APC youth structure across the region.
The Team Head, Information, Media and Publicity, Office of the APC South-West Youth Leader, Ogungbemi Adeyemi Orimisan, described the summit as an opportunity for young party members to connect, learn and prepare for greater responsibilities.
He called on the APC youth leaders, stakeholders and members across the six South-West states to make adequate preparations for the event.
Orimisan said the organisers intended the summit to move beyond a routine political gathering by creating a platform for leadership development, meaningful engagement and stronger coordination among young APC members in the region.
