There is a mixed reaction in Bayelsa, the only homogenous Ijaw State in Nigeria, following the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as a political party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NDC has as its national leader and founder, former governor of Bayelsa and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson from Toru- Orua in Sagbama Local Government Area, while its national chairman is Moses Cleopas from Koluama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

A group, South-South Reawakening Group (SSRG), has slammed Dickson for establishing NDC as part of his plot to destabilise Bayelsa State and distract Governor Douye Diri.

The convener of the group, Mr Joseph Ambakederimo, in a press conference, disclosed that the formation of NDC was borne out of deep animosity against Diri and other political actors in Bayelsa.

He accused Dickson of registering the NDC for the sole purpose of securing a third term in the Red Chambers against the unwritten law on rotation of National Assembly seats in Bayelsa West between Ekeremor and Sagbama local government areas.

Ambakederimo implored Dickson to jettison his plans to use NDC to cause mayhem in Bayelsa and rather join hands with his successor to sustain the prevailing peace in the state.

The publicity secretary of the NDC in Bayelsa State, Prince Mack-Eke, in a swift reaction, urged Bayelsans to disregard the statement of SSRG, as the group has little or no understanding of political issues.

Mack- Eke stated that NDC has its ideology anchored on equity, peace, and justice, and is very proud to have Senator Dickson as its national leader because of his democratic credentials.

Meanwhile, Saturday Sun investigations revealed that a wave of defection has hit Bayelsa West with politicians moving into the NDC and the All Progressive Congress (APC).
