The Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State has inaugurated a 29-member State Executive Council of the party and vowed to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the state in 2027.

Speaking after the official inauguration of the party’s state executive council, the state chairman, Mrs. Olubukola Soyoye, said that the party was ready more than ever to wrest the governorship from the APC.

She expressed readiness to lead the party to electoral victory in Ogun, declaring that the party had been reinvigorated to perform better in the next general election in the state.

While commending the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure; the National Secretary, Umar Farouk; the National Deputy Chairman, Ayo Olorunfemi and the National Deputy Chairman, South West, Abayomi Arabambi, for steering the affairs of the party towards greatness and victory, Mrs Soyoye pledged to work tirelessly to ensure the party remained a beacon of hope, unity and progress for the people.

“We have come a long way and I thank each and every one of you for placing your trust in me. I promise to be a leader who listens, empowers and serves with integrity and dedication,” she stated.

Earlier in his address, the National Vice Chairman, South West of the party, Arabambi, declared that the party would contest for all the elective posts in Ogun in 2027.

He said the era of the party aligning with another political party was over in the state, stressing the party had been primed to defeat the incumbent administration in Ogun in the next general election.

Arabambi contended that the ruling party had failed to position the state as one of the best governed in Nigeria, despite the humongous allocation it receives from the Federal Government on a monthly basis.

He decried the over-reliance on federal allocation by the state government, noting that a projected N554.81 billion from federal statutory allocations constitutes approximately 33 percent of the 2026 budget.

This scenario, he observed, would expose the state’s fiscal plan to external risk as Nigeria’s national economy remains vulnerable to global oil price shocks and production quotas.

“Any shortfall at the federal level would directly and severely impact Ogun State’s ability to fund its ambitious expenditure, potentially leaving half-completed projects as liabilities,” Arabambi pointed out.

He, however, disclosed that the Labour Party at the national level and in Ogun State, would work and ensure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

He stressed that the party in Ogun would vie for all the electoral positions, including the governorship in 2027, expressing confidence that the party would produce the next governor.
