Hon. Abraham Ajiya, Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has again appealed to the understanding of party faithful who kick against micro-zoning of the 2027 election to South to apply wisdom in fighting for a return to power.

Ajiya allays his fear as the debate on micro-zoning of the Presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rages on, preceding the forthcoming PDP national convention in November.
Hon. Ajiya, in an interview with the Sun, said that it takes wisdom to wrestle power out of the hands of an incumbent, while calling for a true political ideology that would ensure equity and justice to relaunch the party back into power.
Ajiya, who bemoaned the inconsistencies among Northern party faithful, further highlighted that “it takes serious political calculations to get a political party back into power. And sometimes we fight internal enemies working for our opponents, which could cause more damage. We should not forget that. There are so many party faithful kicking against micro-zoning, but they forgot that it was through that that power also got to some areas in the past, and through that we can march the ruling party strength to strength”.
However, he emphasises the consequences of denying Jonathan or other key persons from the South the 2027 PDP presidential ticket, as such may push them to join other key opposition parties who need them. “Take it or leave it, the return of Jonathan is the hottest thing now. This is because many political parties are zoning to the South to match the strength of the APC. Also, Peter Obi is there, and if our party throws away these two people, it may not be good, and the party will have to suffer for the next 8 years”.
While commenting on the ongoing secret consultation between Jonathan and the former Kano state Governor Ibrahim Kwankwaso, he observed that lobbying as well as consumptions are key to political alignments, stressing that no opposition can be written off until the results are announced. ” it is normal in politics, the situation is always unpredictable and that is why the party should be careful, the North also should be careful not to jeopardize there chances when next zoning favors them because whatever goes around comes around. Whatever they give out now will definitely come back from the South. So somebody from the South can as well fight back. So why can the Northerners give peace a chance?
Meanwhile, Hon. Ajiya, has countered opposing voices from the North Central who kicked against micro-zoning. He described such ideas as politically myopic. He, however, rued personal interests as the bane of Nigerian politics noting, “I think it is high time we grow beyond selfishness but work towards regions and National benefits in general. To this end, I would submit that there is an element of selfishness in suggesting that the ticket would be thrown open against an incumbent from the South. For me, it is an error; again, the PDP should not forget that the ADC and other major opposition parties are in the race as well,” he concluded.
