The stadium at Onikan in Lagos which was the venue of a rally organised by an All Progressives Congress Support Group, ‘Relax! Tinubu is Fixing Nigeria’ (RTIFN) buzzed with excitement on Saturday, as hundreds of supporters and party members converged.

The rally, according to the organisers was held to create more public awareness of what the administration of President Bola Tinubu has achieved since 2023.

From the opening remarks to the closing prayers, the message the organisers tried to passs was that President Tinubu’s reforms are working and that Nigerians must be patient. They also called on their supporters to spread the message  door to door and community by community

The Lagos State Coordinator of the group, Sesan Olowa, opened proceedings by speaking on the motives of the organisation. He said RTIFN’s objective is ‘public enlightenment and civic engagement, not partisan mobilisation.’

He said: “”We are committed to promoting accurate information and constructive civic engagement. We focus on deepening public understanding of government policies, reforms, and achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The group’s vision, he explained, is to “foster a stable, prosperous, and united Nigeria driven by informed citizens and sustainable governance. Its mission centres on objective research, factual communication, and strategic public enlightenment. In an era where misinformation spreads faster than verified fact, the organisation sees its role as bridging the information gap  providing data-driven analysis to both Nigerians at home and those in the diaspora.”

He continued: “RTIFN was established to address the growing need for accurate and accessible information about government policies and reforms. We are committed to countering misinformation through verified facts, promoting constructive national dialogue, and encouraging unity, patriotism, and responsible civic engagement.”

Also while speaking, the national coordinator of the group, Ahmed Bala, said the organisation’s objectives,  include conducting research and documentation on national initiatives, supporting public understanding of governance strategies, and serving as a platform where citizens can engage with government policy on an informed basis.

One of those present at the rally was

Cornelius Ojelabi, who is the chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress,  While speaking, he said the primary responsibility of party members and supporters is to inform Nigerians about what President Tinubu has done. He said: “I’m listening to your speeches here and there, rolling out the achievements of this administration on education, on infrastructural development, stabilising the economy, bringing more money to the three tiers of government.”

He cited several flagship projects like  the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, the Sokoto-Badagry corridor and some improvements to the economy and said that  the impact of the  administration is not confined to one region or one sector, but spread across the country in ways that benefit all Nigerians.

“Are you talking of the coastal road? Are you talking of the Sokoto-Badagry corridor? Are we talking of the improved economy? The sort of monumental achievement we have recorded is not limited to a particular sector. All of us are benefiting from it. Continue to do what you know how to do best so that together, Nigeria will be better for all of us,” he said.

The most enthusiastic address of the afternoon came from the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat,

“We know that Tinubu is fixing Nigeria. We know,” she told the cheering crowd. “But it is not enough for us to know. It is important for all of us to be evangelists.”

He said task of sharing the administration’s achievements not as political campaigning, but as an obligation is  one that required every supporter to spread at every nook and cranny of the state.

He said that Tinubu’s most controversial decisions, especially the removal of the petrol subsidy had not yet delivered their full benefit to ordinary Nigerians but said that without fiscal discipline, Nigeria risked falling into the same problems that befell other countries which had collapsed under unsustainable economic policies.

“We saw what happened to Sri Lanka. We don’t want that to happen. “President Tinubu has made sure that our economy is stable. Our foreign exchange is stable. Subsidy has been removed. The effect, we will start to see very, very soon,” he said.

She pointed to the student loan scheme as evidence that the administration’s performance, saying that millions of young Nigerians had already benefited from education funding that did not previously exist.

“Today, a lot of our children are going to university. They are not going around to beg. The student loan is working. We are building the future of our country,” he said.

She also addressed those she described as forces seeking to destabilise the administration, saying ;”In every society, there will always be bad people. Even prophets of God were attacked. So who are we to say people will not attack our President? But we must stand by him. We must pray for him. This is our country. We have no other place. Let us relax. Tinubu is fixing this country,” he said.
