The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, reaffirming its alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its policy direction.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, APGA National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, said the party’s National Working Committee had already resolved to adopt Tinubu as its presidential candidate.
He noted that the party would formalise the decision at its next national convention.
“The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), the national working committee, had already taken the decision that we will stay aligned and we will still share the same accord with the All Progressive Congress (APC) and accept the idea of adopting Mr. President as our presidential candidate,” Ezeokenwa said.
“Even prior to anybody’s declaration, the party maintains the position that it will stand ideologically aligned with not just with the All Progressive Congress, but with the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President, and nothing has changed about that,” he added.
Ezeokenwa said the position reflects that of Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, adding that APGA has long maintained ideological alignment with both the APC and the president’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

He explained that the decision is rooted in political strategy, stressing the need for broader alliances to enhance the South-East’s chances in national politics.
According to him, the region’s contribution of less than 10 per cent of total votes in the 2023 election highlights the limits of operating in isolation.
“If you look at the demographics of the 2023 election, the southeast contributed less than 10 per cent of the total vote cast in that election.
“So what it tells you is that to have a shot at the presidency or even the vice presidency or any top position in the country, you need a strategic partnership with our brothers from the North, South West, or even the South South.”
The APGA chairman added that stakeholders in the South-East are increasingly pushing for stronger collaboration with other regions, including the North, South-West and South-South, as part of efforts to secure greater political relevance and access to top positions in the country.
“This is the time in our strategic interest for us to now look at the way that we can be alive,” he added.
