2027: Akure North agitates for Reps seat

Ondo-Assembly

From Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure

The people of Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have declared that 2027 is their turn to present House of Representatives member for Akure North/Akure South federal constituency of Ondo State.

Concerned leaders of the local government area expressed concern that indigenes of the local government area have not represented the federal constituency for the past 24 years.

The leaders under the aegis of Akure North Mandate for Bamidele Ologunloluwa called for justice, equity and fairness in the choice of the candidate of the parties for the position come 2027.

In a statement by the coordinator of the group, Ebenezer Oluwatuyi the Akure North leaders said, “in every enduring democracy, the legitimacy of representation is anchored not merely on electoral victory, but on the philosophical principles of justice, equity and inclusion.

“The doctrine of distributive justice, famously advanced in political thought holds that fairness must guide the allocation of opportunities and power within a society. By this standard, the political reality of the Akure North and South Federal Constituency raises a fundamental concern.

“Since Nigeria’s return to democratic governance in 1999, representation in the Green Chamber has remained exclusively within Akure South. Across seven electoral cycles—spanning over 24 years, Akure North has not produced a single representative. This is not just a statistical imbalance; it is a clear deviation from the principles of equity and shared political belonging.

“A system that consistently overlooks one segment of its constituency risks eroding trust, weakening participation, and undermining its own moral authority. Political philosopher John Rawls’ theory of justice emphasizes fairness as the cornerstone of any just system where opportunities must not only exist but must be accessible to all under conditions of equality. In this context, the continued exclusion of Akure North contradicts the very essence of democratic fairness.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC), as a party built on progressive ideals, now stands at a defining moment. Will it uphold the principle of inclusive representation, or sustain a pattern that increasingly appears unjust?” the group added.

The group therefore called on the people of the federal constituency to support the candidature of Bamidele Ologunloluwa who hails from Akure North Local Government Area.

“Ologunloluwa represents more than an individual aspiration; he embodies the principle of corrective justice. His political journey reflects loyalty, service, and competence. From his role as Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, to his tenure as Commissioner for Youths and Sports, and Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency, he has consistently demonstrated administrative capacity and grassroots connection.

“Twenty-four years is more than enough time for patience to mature into expectation. Now is the moment for equity to become reality,” they said.

APC stakeholders urge Erondu to contest for Abia South Senate seat

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia South Senatorial District have called on the member representing Obingwa-West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, to contest for the Abia South Senate seat in the 2027 general election.

The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an enlarged meeting of APC stakeholders, including women and youth, on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the country home of Erondu Jnr in Umuaro, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

In the communiqué, read by the former Commissioner for Information in Abia State, Chief Don Ubani, the stakeholders expressed dissatisfaction with the representation of the district at the Senate over the past two decades, stating that the people of Abia South were tired and ashamed of what they described as “ineffective leadership.”

They noted that there were no tangible projects or achievements to justify the nearly 20 years of representation, stressing that the development needs of the senatorial district had been largely neglected.

The stakeholders further maintained that the prolonged period of representation had negatively impacted the people of the district, which comprises Aba North, Aba South, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West local government areas.

Consequently, they unanimously called on Erondu Jnr, whom they described as an illustrious son of Abia South, to heed their collective appeal to represent the district in the 11th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2027.

Similarly, the City Boys Movement, Abia South Zone, led by Comrade Justice Ogbonna, joined the growing call for the lawmaker to contest the Abia South senatorial seat in 2027.

The group maintained that the legislator has demonstrated a strong track record in empowering youths and women, making him a credible choice to represent the zone at the Senate.

They further pledged to mobilize resources to purchase the nomination and expression of interest forms for the Uhie-born lawmaker, should he accept the call to contest.

Meanwhile, Erondu Jnr, chairman, House Committee on Public Service, Abia State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude to the groups for finding him worthy of their call to contest the Abia South senatorial seat.

He stated that his commitment over the years has always been focused on improving the welfare and living conditions of the people, particularly those of his constituency.

Erondu Jnr noted that party stakeholders ultimately have the final say in such decisions and said he was pleased to see critical stakeholders of the APC in Abia South urging him to contest the senatorial seat.

Erondu, former chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area, thanked them for their unwavering support and confidence in him, assuring them that he would not let them down.

He also promised to give them a favourable response within 72 hours.

The event also witnessed a rainbow coalition of political interests, as stakeholders from the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia South Senatorial District reiterated their support for the lawmaker.

The communiqué was signed by several APC stakeholders across the senatorial district, including Elder Godwin O. Nna; Emeka Stanley; Dimgba Eruba; Sir Don Ubani; Dr. Chimezie Charles Nwogu; Eze S. Nwanganga; Okezie Erondu; Prince Eze; Sir Abraham; Precious Achumba; Sir Okechi Nwaohu; Sir Ferdinand Onyemaechi; Chief Okechukwu Nweke; Okechukwu Prince; George C.
