As Nigeria edges closer to the 2027 general elections, stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are pushing for the party to zone its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, framing it as a strategic move to secure national appeal and electoral viability.
The call came during a strategy conference in Abuja, organised by the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) alongside ADC stakeholders, themed “From Opposition to Government: Building the Winning Coalition for Nigeria 2027.”
Prince Pam Rwang Jr, COPDEM’s National Chairman, noted that while the recommendation is not yet a formal party decision, it is expected to influence early internal negotiations and candidate alignments.

The conference communiqué highlighted the challenges facing the country economic strain, insecurity, and declining public confidence in leadership. According to participants, a Southern ticket could galvanise support across key regions, particularly the Middle Belt and South, and present a credible, inclusive alternative to voters.
“A presidential campaign in 2027 must reach beyond traditional strongholds. Regional balance is not just symbolic; it is crucial for building trust and mobilising voters,” the statement emphasised.
Delegates also stressed the need for ADC to strengthen internal democracy, promote party unity, and ensure leadership reflects Nigeria’s diversity, positioning the party as a serious contender for the 2027 presidency.
