Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu should secure far more than the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in the territory in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the declaration during a media parley in Abuja, arguing that infrastructure projects, security improvements and engagement with indigenous communities would strengthen support for Tinubu.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister said former senators, ex-members of the National Assembly and former area council chairmen had recently rallied behind his administration despite their different political affiliations.

“It’s not about the candidates; it’s about the style of governance and administration as it regards the FCT,” Wike said.

He cited consultations with traditional rulers and community leaders as part of his administration’s efforts to bring governance closer to residents.

He also said at least two police stations had been constructed in each of the FCT’s six area councils to address security concerns.

Wike said his administration was extending infrastructure development beyond central Abuja, with plans to commission at least 10 projects before the end of December.

The projects include roads linking Karshi, Kubwa and other communities.

Dismissing the suggestion that he was targeting only the minimum electoral threshold for Tinubu, Wike said: “How do you look at me? Coordinator of FCT, and I am looking for 25 per cent? That must be a joke.”

The minister also defended his administration’s handling of issues affecting indigenous communities, including traditional institutions and appointments. He said arrangements were being made to present certificates to traditional rulers who had been elevated.

On complaints about water supply in Karu, Wike said the government had provided the main infrastructure and access points, but residents would need to arrange connections to individual properties.

He rejected calls for the government to extend direct water connections to every household, maintaining that the infrastructure provided a basis for residents to access the supply.

Wike expressed confidence that his administration’s record on roads, security and community engagement would help mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
