2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup: Green Falcons set for showdown with Ireland – Aladeyelu

Blessing Aladeyelu, the captain of Nigeria’s Rugby Football League women’s team, the Green Falcons, confidently affirmed that the team is well-prepared to take on Ireland.

Following a first-leg friendly match that ended in a 40-0 win for the Green Falcons, they rebounded in the series by beating Ghana’s Leopardess again 24-8 on Saturday, significantly, on International Day of the Girl.

Aladeyelu, known for her scoring prowess, speed, and strong defensive skills, shared her thoughts as the team gears up for the upcoming competition for a spot in the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

“We’re focusing on intensive training, with over 95 percent of the Green Falcons currently in camp. We’ve been collaborating on different strategies to enhance our teamwork as we look ahead to the match against Ireland.

“We are determined to give our all in the game and remain focused on our objectives for the next few matches. We are fully prepared.”

Reflecting on the friendly series with Ghana, she remarked, “Kudos to the Ghanaian Leopardess; they were truly worthy opponents. Analyzing the outcomes, our offensive and defensive plays were strong, and in the second leg, Ghana maintained their composure.”

The Green Falcons are set to face Ireland, Fiji, and host Canada as they vie for the final qualification spot.
