2023: Don’t defy the zoning formula in Enugu state -Enugu progressive youth warns
The Enugu Progressive Youth (EPY) has called on the political stakeholders in Enugu State to stand by the agreement on the zoning system or End the peaceful coexistence among the zones.
They made the call in Enugu, when they met with journalists, saying going by the antecedents and prior agreement, it is the turn of Enugu East Senatorial District to produce the next Governor of the state in 2023.
They said that failure to stand by the zoning formula already practiced in the state might result in a bloody political battle that could easily be avoided by standing by the truth.
Their communique, read by Chinedu Nnamani, a former political stalwart in Enugu State State, said “Based on the sharing formula already being used in Enugu State, everybody knows that it is the turn of Enugu East Senatorial District to produce the next governor in 2023, Enugu East Senatorial district which consists of five local government areas of Enugu North, Enugu South, Isi Uzo, Nkanu East and Nkanu West have viable sons and daughters that can handle such role and they should be given the opportunity to do that.
“The movement notes that this is not a plea to other regions in the state but an agreement that should be supported to drive prosperity and equity in the State.
“When it was the time of Enugu West Senatorial district, they gave us Sullivan I.Chime, Enugu North Senatorial district gave us Gburugburu, it is now the time for Enugu East to produce a governor and anyone standing on the way will be crushed by the demand of the people.
The group frowned at anyone obstructing the zoning formula practiced in the state, adding that it is one of the things that has guaranteed peace in the state.
“Enugu State is the most peaceful state in Nigeria, and one of the things that have made sure this peace exists is the team spirit and equity among the political stakeholders in the state. I can go on and call some neighboring states that have not practiced this and how they have destabilized the political architecture and safety of their people.
“Doing this will guarantee peace in this state and Gburugburu knows this”, they stressed.
Another leader of the group, Nonso Ujam said stakeholders of various political parties in the state should meet and agree on this. Any party that flaunts it should know that they have failed even before going to the polls.
He said they were also interested in the credibility and character of the person to lead in 2023.
