Two persons were killed during a clash between two rival cult groups at Ojota, Kosefe Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The cultists, were fighting a battle of supremacy over who should be in control of the area and ended up sending two members to their early graves.
Traders in the area hurriedly locked up their shops and fled the area for fear of being trapped in the bloody war.
Our correspondent gathered that during the clash, one person was hacked to death at Olatunji Street, while another person was killed at Ogudu Road.
According to a witness, Wasiu, the clash started around 8:am, forcing us to close shops. It was not the first time such a crisis had been occurring in the community, and whenever they fight, we must be affected as we must close shops or we we will trapped and our wares will be looted. Some of us may be injured .
“The hoodlums always used the opportunity to rob people of their belongings. It took time before the police arrived the scene to bring the situation under control.
“ The Government should engage the youths to avoid such crisis we are witnessing in Lagos. Some people rely on what they sell daily to take care of their family members ,but with the clash every now and then, our lives are not safe and our businesses affected .
A witness,Mrs. Gabriella Adekunle, said many people sustained injuries,” They were trying to escape from the scene,so ,while scampering for safety as the cultists were shooting sporadically, they sustained injuries .Those who were going to work in the morning ran back home for fear of being attacked, while parents didn’t allow their children to go to school for fear of being shot.It is unfortunate that such a thing is happening in a city like Lagos.
“I saw a corpse suspected to be that of one of the cultists killed at Olatunji Street. I saw another body on the road to Ogudu.
Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said two persons were killed during the clash,”o ur men were able to move to scene and restore order to the area and business activities has continued.
