Two previously warring communities in Ebonyi State, Ojiegbe Isu in Onicha LGA and their neighbours, Aguotu Ezzagu in Ishielu LGA, have agreed to live in peace and harmony after many decades of hostilities.
Ebonyi State Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Dr. Donatus Ilang, during a visit to the areas commended them for their peaceful disposition in handling the crisis over the land dispute that erupted between them some years ago.
He spoke at Ojiegbe Village Square during the boundary tracing of the contentious piece of land between the two parties.
Ilang in company with the Surveyor-General of the State, Mr. John Ngbede, represented by Mr. Okpani Vincent and some staff of the Ministry of Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, said that peace is the fundamental structure upon which the state governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru anchored his administrative policy of People’s Charter of Needs.
According to him, the fact-finding visit was also to confirm the various claims they submitted to his office, pleading that they should desist from any act capable of escalating the crisis.
He promised them more dividends of democracy from the state government as they unite force for peaceful coexistence.
The commissioner also urged the youths to be productive rather than being agents of destruction, while appealing to the women to be ambassadors of peace in the areas. He was emphatic that crisis is an ill wind that blows no good to anyone.
Stakeholders of Aguotu Ezzagu and Ojiegbe Isu, Chief Nworie Charles, Christian Nweke and Agboeze Sunday respectively appreciated the commissioner for his efforts at ensuring that peace reigned in the area, and pleaded with the state government to hasten actions to ensure that there was permanent peace in the area.
President-General of Ogboji Youths Assembly in Ishielu LGA on behalf of his people expressed optimism that lasting peace would be experienced in the area and pledged their readiness to comply with government’s directives.
