About 15 persons yesterday died in a road accident, which involved two vehicles along Owo-Abuja Road, in Eponmi Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The accident, according to an eyewitness, involved an unregistered vehicle said to be ‘Tokunbo’ (fairly used imported) car and driven by a military officer.

It was gathered that the car driven by the military officer collided with a Toyota Hiace bus coming from Abuja and the two vehicles went up in smoke. The Police Area Commander for Akoko area command, Mr. Razak Rauf, who confirmed the accident, attributed it to recklessness on the part of the driver of the ‘Tokunbo’ car.

It was gathered that men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rescued some passengers involved in the accident, while the corpses were deposited at the state specialist hospital, Ikare Akoko.

The police area commander also confirmed that the drivers of the two vehicles survived the accident. The drivers who reportedly sustained serious injuries, according to the police, are already receiving medical treatment at the state specialist hospital, Ikare Akoko.
