For Seth Okorocha, a 14 years old boy who has been diagnosed with leukemia at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), life may have presented the greatest challenge ever witnessed by his parents.
Seth is an SS2 student at Brilliant Academy School, Buchnor, in Ejigbo, Lagos.
Early this year, he started complaining of headaches and fever. The parents thought he had malaria, so he was treated for malaria. But when the symptoms persisted, he was taken to a private hospital in Satellite Town, Lagos, where he was admitted on two consecutive occasions.
Upon the advice of the doctor, Seth was later taken to the General Hospital, Isolo, Lagos, where he was admitted for about two months.
He was later referred to LASUTH, where he was diagnosed with leukemia. That was the turning point in the battle to save the life of Seth.
At LASUTH, on confirmation of the health condition, the devastated parents were told that the hospital could help in managing the patient but didn’t have the capacity to cure. The hospital also advised that the only curative step was through bone marrow transplant, which could only be done abroad.
According to Okorocha, enquiries that have been made so far indicate that about $70,000 would be required for the treatment abroad, “which we cannot afford, as the family has spent all we have in the cause of the treatment, which requires regular blood transfusion.
“We appeal to public-spirited individuals and organizations to come to our aid to save the life of Seth Okorocha, son of Mr. Cosmas and Pastor (Mrs.) Favour Okorocha.”
