14-year-old Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a talented painter living with autism, has become the youngest person to receive the prestigious fellowship award from the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA).
The award was presented to Kanyeyachukwu during the 2023 International Conference on Art and Development (CONADEV) held in Abuja.
The SNA, which is a professional body for visual artists in Nigeria, as gathered, aims to promote the development and understanding of the visual arts through practice and scholarly engagement. Kanyeyachukwu’s exceptional talent and dedication to his craft made him the perfect recipient for this esteemed recognition.
During the event, SNA President Muhammad Sulaiman and General Secretary, Prince Prosper Akeni, presented Kanyeyachukwu with a plaque, honoring his achievements.
Speaking about the young artist, Sulaiman described him as a exceptional individual who fully deserved the fellowship award. He also emphasized the importance of harnessing the power of visual arts to drive positive change and foster creativity in the sector.
Akeni, in turn, highlighted SNA’s role as an umbrella organisation for professional visual artists and art groups in Nigeria. He explained that SNA’s endorsement not only brings recognition and promotion to the recipient but also certifies their artistic professionalism.
Kanyeyachukwu’s parents, Mr. and Dr. Tagbo-Okeke, expressed their gratitude to SNA for recognizing their son’s talent and dedication. They are humbled and thrilled by the honor bestowed upon him, which they believe will inspire him to contribute even more to the art community alongside other talented artists.
