Participants at the just concluded career clinic hosted in Enugu by Jobberman Nigeria – a leading recruitment solutions company in the country – expressed their profound gratitude at the opportunity to remove the cobwebs on their career paths and figure out the next steps. The event theme was “Your career compass: Gain clarity & direction.”

One of such participants, a graduate of Radiography looking to pivot into tech told Jobberman that the event resolved two issues for her. “This event has made me so happy because the career counsellors assured me that the switch is possible and I’m not crazy to desire it. They also gave me tips on next steps and how to start positioning myself for opportunities in tech,” she said.

Nigeria has seen a surge of young talents entering both the formal and informal sectors, all in search of employment. Jobberman’s recent jobseeker-centred events, with a total attendance of over 4,200 in the last two years, highlight the urgent need for career support among the youth.

The Enugu Career Clinic, the fifth in a series following successful events in Ibadan, Lagos, and Kaduna, was described by Jobberman CEO, Oreoluwa Boboye as “a platform for professionals from various sectors to offer practical solutions and counselling to young job seekers.”

In his welcome address, Boboye encouraged participants to take full advantage of the available resources and support in the form of one-on-one career counselling sessions and CV reviews. He reinforced the importance of adding direction to skillset.

The keynote speaker, Mrs. Nnenna Anozie, introduced the “career compass,” a framework designed to help individuals navigate their career journeys. She highlighted the importance of self-assessment, setting achievable goals, continuous learning, seeking mentorship, volunteering and applying knowledge through practical experience.

Speaking on the partnership between Jobberman and the Mastercard Foundation, Ahmed Alaga, Head of Partnerships at Jobberman Nigeria, restated that the aim of events like the Career Clinic is to arm young talents with the skills and competencies they require to succeed in their careers.

The Enugu State government’s support was also evident, with Mr. Godwin Chinonso representing the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidi Onyia, commending Jobberman for its initiatives aimed at youth empowerment.

The event’s focus on inclusion was particularly appreciated by a participant with a disability, who expressed her gratitude to Jobberman for its commitment to inclusive talent training. She stated: “I am very grateful to Jobberman for their Disability sensitivity. I came here particularly for the CV review and accessed the one-on-one counselling session. The professional that spoke with me told me how I can combine my medical expertise with being an advocate for People With Disabilities.”

The overall goal of the Jobberman Enugu Career Clinic which featured one-on-one counselling sessions, CV reviews, and LinkedIn optimisation tips was to equip 1200 young talents with skills and tools for dignified employment opportunities, aligning with Jobberman’s partnership with the Mastercard Foundation under the Young Nigeria Works strategy.
