Lagos State Government is set to roll out a comprehensive health and safety programme targeting professional drivers across the state as part of efforts to enhance road safety and protect lives and property.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Transport and Logistics, Hon. Hassan Adekoya, is scheduled to take place from Monday, February 9 to Thursday, February 12, 2026, at multiple locations statewide.

Adekoya said the programme is designed to tackle occupational health and safety challenges faced by professional drivers particularly truck drivers whose services are vital to Lagos State’s economy and logistics network.

No fewer than 10,000 commercial drivers are expected to benefit from the exercise, which will be implemented at four strategic locations: Iyana Iba, Obalende, Lekki Free Trade Zone Parks, and the Lilly Pond Bonded Terminal in Apapa.

According to the government, the programme will offer free eye screenings, medical consultations, corrective lenses, as well as substance abuse awareness and screenings aimed at promoting responsible driving and improving overall road safety.

Transport owners, associations, and unions have been urged to support the initiative by sensitising and mobilising their members to participate in the screenings and educational sessions, while also facilitating access to major parks and depots for programme activities.

The state government noted that the overarching goal is to ensure that every driver departing seaports, depots, and parks across Lagos is physically fit, mentally alert, and visually capable of navigating the roads safely.
