Borno State Governor Prof Babagana Zulum has called for a voluntary day of fasting and prayer on Monday, May 19, to seek divine intervention amid renewed Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks.
In a statewide broadcast on Saturday, Zulum urged residents to unite in faith to address the resurgence of terrorist activities after a year of relative calm.
“In light of our current security challenges, I am calling on all residents of Borno State to unite in a collective act of faith and solidarity,” Zulum said. “This Monday, I am inviting you to join me in a voluntary day of fasting and prayer for peace to reign in Borno State, the Northeast, and indeed the entire country.”
Zulum emphasised fasting as a communal expression of hope, strengthening unity and resilience. He revealed ongoing collaborations with federal authorities to enhance security, stating, “Together, we are working on comprehensive strategies to strengthen our security architecture, enhance intelligence sharing, and equip our security agents.”
The governor also addressed rising urban crime, announcing the reactivation of the Anti-Social Vices Committee to maintain order. Zulum reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace, urging traditional rulers, religious leaders, and citizens to support the effort.
