Governor Dauda Lawal has described the passing of revered Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi as a loss to scholarship, religious tolerance, and humanity as a whole.

The governor wrote a personal tribute on his Facebook page while reacting to the demise of the religious leader.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi died on Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.

He was buried on Friday after a funeral prayer attended by thousands of Muslim faithful.

Sheikh Sheriff Saleh, Grand Imam of Nigeria, presided over the congregation held at the Kofar Gombe Eid Prayer Ground at about 5:00 p.m.

Governor Lawal prayed to Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaus and accept his devotion and commitment towards the teaching and propagation of Qur’anic sciences.

“On behalf of the good people and government of Zamfara State, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s immediate family, students and the Muslim community,” he said.

Born in 1927 in Gombe, the scholar devoted his life to advancing Islamic education, promoting peaceful coexistence, and fostering unity in the country.

He was also the supreme leader of the Tijjaniyya in Nigeria, an Islamic Sufi group.

His teachings, focusing on moral discipline, tolerance, and adherence to Islamic principles, earned him mass followership and deep respect within and beyond Nigeria.
