Zamfara State governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, has flagged off the distribution of 72,000 bags of fertilizer, 200,000 litres of herbicide, 100 food crushers, 100 grass choppers, and 100 milling machines to boost agriculture.
The intervention also included improved pasture seeds, 20 motorcycles, and 20 mobile phones for agricultural extension agents.
The event, which took place at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, marked the sixth agricultural distribution programme by Governor Lawal since he assumed office in May 2023.
Speaking at the flag-off for the 2026 wet season, the Governor stated: “Today’s event represents another significant milestone in our commitment to revitalising agriculture, strengthening food security, supporting our farmers, and repositioning Zamfara State as a major contributor to Nigeria’s agricultural economy.”
He noted that Zamfara is blessed with vast fertile land and hardworking people.

“Farming remains the primary source of livelihood for the majority of our people and our greatest opportunity for inclusive economic growth, especially as we say farewell to poverty, banditry, and insurgency,” Lawal said.
The governor emphasised that his administration aims to migrate Zamfara from traditional subsistence farming to a technology-driven, commercial agricultural economy through improved inputs, mechanisation, and stronger market linkages.
He urged the distribution committee to be transparent, warning that his administration has zero tolerance for the diversion of materials.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Ya’u Haruna Gamji, commended Governor Lawal for his consistent and timely seasonal support to farmers.
A beneficiary, Hajiya Hadiza Muhammadu, from the Bungudu Local Government Area, expressed appreciation for the inputs, noting that they would significantly ease her farming activities. She thanked the Governor and the ministry for making the process seamless for local farmers.
