Youth group wants JAMB Registrar appointed education minister

From Fred Ezeh, Abuja

A youth advocacy group, Youth Arise Initiative, has launched a campaign for the Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, to be appointed as Minister of Education.

The youth asked President Bola Tinubu to consider Prof Oloyede, as the right replacement for the immediate-past Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who piloted the affairs of the Ministry for eight years, 2015-2023.

National Coordinator of the group, Hon. Victor Essien, in a press statement, on Monday, explained that the decision of the group was because of the fact that Prof. Oloyede has proven his worth, in terms of administrative and financial management in public office.

He said the advantage that Prof. Oloyede, has is that he has been deeply involved in the ruining of the sector since 2016 when he was appointed as JAMB Registrar by the former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

He said: “Prof. Oloyede as the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, proved himself and left a legacy in the institutions. We could all see what has happened in JAMB since he was appointed in August 2016.

“He revolutionized JAMB and introduced several transformations, financially, administratively and otherwise, that surprised everybody. JAMB which used to rely on subvention now has a surplus that it remits to the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

“Prof. Oloyede has obviously proven that he’s competent, experienced and more than qualified to run the education sector, and I am confident that Prof. Oloyede as education Minister will herald an unprecedented transformation in the sector to the benefit of all Nigerians.”

He also made reference to the way Prof. Oloyede, and by extension JAMB handled the Miss Mmesomma Ejikeme, result saga which could have caused serious embarrassment for the examination body considering the fact that Nigerians were also lashing out at JAMB, not considering the position of the Board.
