Disability Rights Action Group (DRAG), has cautioned content creators against portraying people with special needs in a very bad light, adding that a majority of their contents misrepresented who they are.
Chikwado Raphael, in a Facebook post on Sunday, said that people of his ilk do not find some of the contents of comedians funny as they present a false image of who they are.
Raphael, who made reference to a comedy skit by Chukwuebuka Emeka Amuzie (Brain Jotter) and Anokwute Longinus (Chief Imo), said: “Nigerian comedians are not representing the image of persons with disabilities in a good way.
“They don’t often realize that their skits, especially the ones they act behaving as if they are with disabilities, are putting the disable community in a highly disadvantaged position across Nigeria.
“Some of you may find this kind of joke rather hilarious, but it’s not! Only if you could understand the negative impact of their skits.
“They indirectly use their skit making to peddle lies, making the public believe or think persons with disabilities are the way they are depicting them in their comedies.”
