Worldwide condemnation has trailed Lauren James’ angry stomping on Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie in the round of 16 match between Nigeria and England.
England won via penalty after being held goalless by the gusty nine-time African champions.
James was sent off in the 87th minute of the game after VAR deemed her conduct a very violent conduct.
The disgusting act put the Lionesses a player down and put their World Cup lives in peril. Soccer fans around the world were none too pleased with the stomp.
Many have compared James’ moment of madness to Beckham’s moment of madness at the 1998 World Cup.
Here are some reactions from fans all over the world, in condemnation of the senseless act of malice from the England leading goal scorer.
Mayhemdiva, Melbourne, Australia, “Disgraceful. Like Liz Cabbage, look who the worst are, should be banned for life
PPGuy, Bangrak, Thailand, “Hero to zero. What an idiot.
BTHB, Bristol, United Kingdom, “Should be banned from the England team for a lengthy period for that, perhaps even more so than the men’s team; the women are role models to young fans. What makes it worse is that the was no nastiness, bad fouls on the game that violent outburst came from nowhere
Zero Tolerance, Houston, United States, ”Stamp was deliberate and vindictive. Paid the price. Red card all the way. What an utterly thoughtless thing to do.
Scot Brown, London, United Kingdom, ”Hurting someone with intent and rightly sent off. Not fit to represent our country. We win by playing fairly with sportsmanship. And we beat opponents because we are better. We don’t need this in the game.
Christomcg, Sydney, “If I was in the same team as her she wouldn’t be getting my support after such stupidity and lack of discipline. Watching too much Beckham, clearly not learned!
One Tweep, @KillHendricks said, ” Nasty person. There was no need for that nonsense.”
