…to set up Committee to recruit teachers, increment in their salaries

Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris has declared his administration intension to recruit more teachers to fill up empty classrooms, setting up Committee to look into the increment of their salaries within shortest time to remove them from being a second hand workers in the state.

 

Idris stated this while addressing members of Women Rights Advancement Protection Alternative(WRAPA)Nigeria,Kebbi State, alongside other NGOs and CSOs during their rally in the state to mark this year International Day of Educated.

This year theme was titled: “Learning for lasting peace through community participation”, supported by USAID through Palladium on her Scale intervention.

While addressing them at the Government House , Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris insisted that his administration would instil confidence in all the teachers working in the state as well improved their welfare.

 

According to him, ” the era of treating teachers as second-hand workers in the state is over. So, I want to build confidence in teachers in Kebbi State. We are going to look into your salaries. We are going to also look into the general welfare of the teachers including that of the students.

“When we came on board, children in the southern parts of Kebbi State could not go to schools because of insecurity. Today,our schools in southern parts of the state are open because we provided security in our schools.

“Even, people who had fled from their homes have returned homes and going back to their farms. This administration solemnly believe in the lives and security of our citizens.

“Again ,the delay in the payment of teachers salaries is over. I have told leaders of the NUT in the state that if they experience any delay,they should come over to inform me and we are going to remove those who are responsible for that and replace them with responsible people that would be taking care of teachers welfare.”.

Governor Idris also disclosed that his administration has increased the budget of education to accommodate many reforms in the sector.

He said: ” we are going to recruit more teachers. Because,base on the finding during my inspections to schools,our classrooms are empty and a teacher cannot be steering the affairs of the state when our classrooms are empty. We want to bridge this gap and addressed the situation.

“Insha Allahu, this Government will put committee in place to look into the recruitment of the teachers so that we can addressed this issue once and for all. This administration shall take care of the teachers welfare by God grace “, he said.

Earlier, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary school Education,Dr.Halima Muhammed Bande,urged the schools management stakeholders to allow peace to reign in all the schools across the state by inculcate avenue for tolerance among the pupils.

 

In his remark,the Executive Director of WRAPA,Nasir Idris informed the Governor that the accountability for good governance in education (AGGE) cluster are individuals and organisation who has passion in good governance in Education in Kebbi State.

“We believe that the community framework, strategy developed by the Kebbi SUBEB with the support from the cluster ,if well implemented and sustained,will help the state include citizens in the budget development process.

“This is the most crucial,thereby reinforcing the culture of inclusion, transparency, accountability and aiding citizens to take ownership of government investment within the state easily”.
