Spain midfielder Rodri has apologised to Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva following a heated confrontation between the pair during their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash on Monday.

The incident occurred during Spain’s 1-0 victory over Portugal, a result that secured the Spaniards a place in the quarter-finals.

Mikel Merino scored the decisive late goal in Dallas to send Spain through and end Portugal’s World Cup campaign.

However, Rodri’s provocative actions triggered a heated altercation with Silva.

Speaking to reporters after the match, the Ballon d’Or winner admitted, “I apologise to Bernardo Silva for celebrating his miss on that last action. It’s my fault.”

Rodri and Silva were former teammates at Manchester City during their time together at Manchester City.
