Morocco goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou has expressed admiration for how Lionel Messi carried Argentina following a missed penalty against Egypt in the World Cup Round of 16, saying the 39-year-old is still “capable of producing miracles” despite his age.

Despite missing a 21st-minute penalty, Messi scored once and provided an assist as Argentina overturned a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Bounou was full of praise for the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner following the electrifying performance.

He said, “I was really impressed by the mentality Messi showed in the last match. After missing a penalty, he regained his confidence.”

The 35-year-old Al-Hilal goalie added, “We’re seeing a different Messi, he’s more free and with a different energy.

“It’s a privilege and a joy to still be able to watch him play at this age, he’s still capable of producing miracles.”
