Sanwo-Olu hails rescue of abducted Oyo schoolchildren, teachers

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended the successful rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against insecurity.

The victims were kidnapped on 15 May in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and regained their freedom after spending more than 55 days in captivity.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor expressed relief and delight over the development, saying the successful operation underscores the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to protecting lives and combating insecurity across the country.

Sanwo-Olu praised the coordinated efforts of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Air Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies, whose collaboration led to the safe rescue of the victims.

He also commended the Oyo State Government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, for its support throughout the rescue operation, noting that the successful outcome has renewed hope among the families of the victims, residents of Ogbomoso, and people across the South-West.

“The rescue is a big relief and demonstrates the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the fight against insecurity. I commend the tireless efforts, professionalism, and resilience of our gallant security operatives who made this possible,” the governor said.

Sanwo-Olu added, “I equally rejoice with the government and people of Oyo State, particularly the residents of Ogbomoso, on this heartwarming development. This successful rescue has restored hope to the affected families and reinforces our collective resolve to support security agencies in ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.”

The Lagos governor reaffirmed the need for sustained collaboration among the federal government, state governments, security agencies, and local communities to effectively tackle criminality and guarantee the safety of citizens across the country.
