A former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, has expressed dismay over the spate of corruption in the country, urging women to use their God-given power to help in fighting the menace.

She said that if women should frown at the way their spouses in positions of authority are acquiring illegal wealth, those involved would be forced to shun it.

“If we tell the men not to go and make this money in a bad way because we are not going to share it with them, knowing that we have the power to make life difficult for them in the other room, they would desist. It is because women have not put their feet down against the wrought that has taken over Nigeria. Nigeria is in our hands, and we can make it the way we want it to be. God has given us that power.”

She urged women to advise men in their lives who are in positions of authority to advise them against corruption.

She warned of an impending disaster if the security situation in the country is not handled quickly.

“When these poor decide to start going into different houses, how many houses can the police guard? They can not guard everywhere. “

Ojikutu who was speaking at the installation ceremony of Aberuagba Abiola Olufunke as the 18th District Chairman D912, of Inner Wheel Club 2024-2025, which took place in Lagos, urged women to desist from acquiring material things through illicit means and rather wear the clothing of righteousness in whatever they are doing.

“It is good to shine; wear the gold, diamond, etc. It is good to acquire them, but please, I want us to try and acquire them in an honest way. The way we have been acquiring in Nigeria makes us the nemesis of the men in Nigeria.”

She asked women to begin to create awareness among other women on the right way to acquire things.

An advocate of women’s empowerment, Ojikutu blamed women for finding it difficult to support fellow women.

She applauded the men for supporting active women and achievers.

“They cannot put you down, and that has been my luck. Not because they are essentially kind, but you have to go that extra mile, be hard-working, and be honest to shine above others. They would have no choice but to recognise you.”

One of the awardees at the event, Morayosola Fadipe, Founder, Pinefield Schools, Lekki, Lagos, reiterated the role of women in the society, saying that women has more empathy and compassion to human beings, therefore, has the will power to deliver if in the position of authority.
