Wike’s Ex-Commissioner Resigns From Fubara’s Govt

From Tony John, Port Harcourt

Professor Zaccheaus Adangor, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has announced his unwillingness to serve in any capacity in the Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led administration.

His decision to quit the government came a few hours after a minor cabinet reshufflement, where Adangor was relieved as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to the Ministry for Special Duties (Governor’s Office).

Professor Adangor served under former governor Nyesom Wike as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice for four years.

Also, affected by the reshufflement which was signed by Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Tammy Danagogo on Tuesday night, was Mr Isaac Kamalu.

He was the Commissioner for Finance but was deployed to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.

Responding to the deployment, Professor Adangor, in a letter addressed to the SSG, dated 24th April 2024, rejected the deployment and consequently announced his resignation from the State Executive Council, with effect from Wednesday.

He stated: “I wish to State for the record that I am no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, in any capacity whatsoever.”

Adangor alleged: “It is important to mention that the Governor of Rivers State had in the couple of weeks wilfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State, by directing me not to defend, oppose, or appear in suits instituted against the Honourable Attorney-General and the Government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the Government of Rivers State.”

He added: “Having served the Government and good people of Rivers State dutifully as a member of the Rivers State Executive Council for the past five years, it has become imperative for me to quit the administration in order to preserve my reputation.”
